Gotta Love The Times

On most mornings my wife can be heard wondering why I continue to read The New York Times as it makes me so crazy. It's almost laughable socialist agenda usually has me fulminating over my coffee and referring to the paper as Pravda. But today's edition is just another example of why I soldier on reading their leftist drivel. It's because of their great obits and unintentionally hilarious cultural pieces. Today their was an obit about a 90 year-old German officer who was the last surviving member of the group who tried to kill Hitler during the war. Great history you'll not read anywhereelse. He escaped capture but always carried a cyanide capsule on him until the end of the war.
Then there is the dance review of "Chimurenga" , Nora Chipumire's translation of her youth during Zimbabwe's second war of liberation. Here's what The Times has to say:
" Tall and muscular, with her head shaved bald save for a tiny patch toward the front, Ms. Chipumire is capable of devouring the stage....In one repeated motif she mimes throwing a stone, only to arc her body backward and around violently, as if the forces she is battling have swatted her away like a nettlesome fly."
It gets worse or funnier. "Ms. Chipumire gently crouched and balanced a large gourd on her head, or softly reciting a list of remembered pleasures." Who writes this crap? You can have my tickets to this riveting performance!

Jim, if you insist on reading the NY Times' arts reviews, you get what you deserve. Ever since Frank Rich moved over (up?) to the Op-Ed section, there has been nothing worth reading in Arts & Leisure. By the by -- have you read Mr. Rich's Sunday piece? Quite good!
